2013 Update

admin July 17th, 2014

Yet another year has flown by…

While I still find segmented turning a real challenge I thought it was time to experiment with other concepts in the huge variety of wood turning.
The work that I’m now producing has taken a new direction. From laminated platters I have moved onto bigger items such as large solid bows with segmented rims large flat dishes and hollow form vases.

I’m still entering salons/competitions at the WGO and TWG. This year I’ve been moved into a higher category and now am up against some fierce competition… A lot of very innovative and talented wood turners out there.

A new and fun direction has been making lots of fun laminated breadboards which came out of the idea that my son wanted to sell them in his Food and Deli store. I’ve had a lot of very positive sales especially for live edge Walnut and cherry cutting boards. The laminated exotic boards have a different market and and sell really well art and craft shows and as Christmas gifts.

2011 A Year in Review

admin August 14th, 2012

It’s been really busy so I have not had a chance to do any updating and new cataloging for quite some time. This year passed rather quickly…had a few wins at the WGO and the TWG by winning a few ribbons for my platters. The Ontario Craft Council accepted a number of my pieces for their show cases. The Meta 4 Gallery in Port Perry and Gallery 747 in Tweed have a number of my pieces in their gallery. This year I have decided to change direction in my wood design site and will venture into a new rather time consuming and challenging section called Segmented wood turning. A lot of cutting and pre-prep before one can actually put a tool to the wood on the lathe. They will be up on the site soon.

  • 2009 proved to be a very rewarding and challenging year for my first year as a wood turner.
  • In August 2009 I was encouraged to join the American Association of Wood turners and have listed 6 pieces on the prestigious website which has a viewing of over 30,000 people world wide.
  • In September 2009 4 pieces were entered in the 30th Annual Ontario Wood Carvers Show and I was fortunate to win 4 Honorable mentions and a 1st Prize in the Bowl/Platter Category.
  • In December 2009 a 1st and 3rd Prize in the Toronto Wood turners Guild Annual Competition were awarded to 2 of my pieces.

  • In January & February 2010 Art for All Canada requested 12 pieces for a gallery in down town Toronto.
  • A number of galleries have expressed a keen interest in carrying my work, notably Gallery 767 in Tweed Ontario has sold 4 pieces and Meta 4 Gallery in Port Perry will be taking a large number of pieces for sale.
  • I was also delighted to be commissioned to make a board game “Tigers and Goats ” for a friend which was made from Walnut and Maple 18″ x 18″ x 1″ Thick.

Many of my pieces were sold privately to friends and associates.

Thank you all very much for your support and inspiration.

A large number of new works have been added to my new Gallery 3 and the work continues .

The first place award was achieved in the Novice category for this beautiful and rather complicated wood turned bowl.

RLK-014Ron’s exotic Paduk + Lace wood platter walked away with a 3rd place award.

Quite an accomplishment since Ron only started Woodturning in February of 2009
